Bingo Clubs hampered by the weather
The snow this morning will be bringing misery to many bingo managers. Bingo players are generally very resilient and resourceful and manage to make it to bingo regardless of the difficulties. When it snows well that’s a different story.
Snow is one of the biggest factors that affect bingo numbers. It generally has a bigger impact than competitors’ promotions and public transport problems. Good summers can also have a negative effect on bingo numbers with customers spending longer periods away from home and being involved in more outdoor family and friend related activities. With the exception of the heavy snow in February this year the UK hasn’t seen much snow in recent years and bingo clubs will have benefited from this. December is also a very costly month for bingo sites in terms of promotions and for many clubs it is important that they return the expected levels of customers in order to justify the expense. Snowy weather before Christmas is a double hardship for clubs.
Bingosupermarket has spoken to several operators this morning in the Yorkshire area where snow fall has caused a few problems. While there were no plans to close any of the clubs staff were out gritting the entrance and exit areas as well as providing extra support to elderly customers getting in and out of the club. Assistant Manager, Dave Lambourne, commented “It is very difficult for the elderly customers that travel to the club by public transport in the snow. It is very easy for them to slip and break bones. For many of them it will not be worth the risk and they will just stay at home. We do all we can to help them in and out of the club but the problem is that for the majority of their journey they will be on their own or with friends that are also struggling to keep their footing”
While with good summers both online and offline bingo are likely to feel the pinch, in the snowy periods the bingo clubs loss will show gains in some online bingo sites
